Drugs Search and Refusal: What the SIA Expects You to Document

Venue drugs policies vary, but the documentation standard when someone is searched, refused entry, or ejected for drugs-related reasons is consistent: you must show lawful authority under the policy, what was observed, what was said, and what happened to any substances.

Before Any Search

Record that the venue policy was explained, whether consent was given or entry was refused on that basis, and who witnessed the interaction. If the person declined search and was refused entry, document the refusal clearly — grounds, time, description, CCTV.

If Substances Are Found

What was observed, how it was secured, whether police were called, reference number, and chain of custody if your company policy requires handover to police. Do not speculate on substance type unless you are qualified to say so — describe appearance and packaging.

Privacy and GDPR

Drugs-related records are sensitive in reputation terms even if not "special category" data under GDPR. Record what is necessary for the incident purpose. Original Note seals the record at submission so later allegations of tampering are answerable.
